Kids Across Borders was created by Gaia Boranga in 2004 as the basis for a research project for a Masters in Education for Sustainability from Murdoch University. The research project was supervised by Dr David Tripp and Dr Brad Pettitt (former Mayor of Fremantle and current WA senator). It was successfully piloted as an exchange between classes at Kununurra District High School in Western Australia and the 15th May School in Vietnam, a school for street children in the centre of Ho Chi Minh. It was also independently taken on by Perth based schools linked to schools in Timor Leste.
Kids Across Borders is now being redeveloped by a team of passionate educators to use as a basis for exchange between schools in Aboriginal communities and schools in the wider Australian community. Expressions of interest are sought from schools which would like to participate.
